Covid-19 has been a trauma for many businesses, accelerating the need to move archaic paper based processes into the 21st century amongst many other challenges. Many business have realised the incredible benefits of flexible home working, with many employees flourishing. Inevitably, there are many of us who miss and indeed prefer the social interaction of being in an office. Teams, Zoom and other similar products have helped us connect like never before. I have recently been lucky enough to test some of the offerings for Virtual Reality and am amazed at both the current technology and the potential that will be realised within a few years – a real game changer.
The work of IT departments across the country and beyond cannot be understated. They have worked miracles to leverage and innovate with their current software / infrastructure, and invested in new technology, to ensure that activity can continue.
More than ever, employees need a robust way of accessing & updating their data and communicating with their colleagues, and colleagues need to be able to digitally share information across streets and cities rather than desks and offices. For example, one of the more common single items of configuration that many customers are not aware of is the ability to allow employees to see who their open form (eg expense, T&A) is currently with for approval, requiring only a tick box in system control and ensuring “Forms History” is added to the security profile. This in itself will empower employees to manage their requests without the need to chase departments to find out who needs to approve their form. A real quick win.
